Our streets are all connected.
Chicago's violence epidemic impacts us all.
Support is needed to help young people heal from trauma.
These are the reasons UCAN, St. Pauls United Church of Christ, and our surrounding Chicago neighbors are coming together to #StartTheLove at our 6th annual Polar Peace March!
Event Location - St. Pauls United Church of Christ, 2335 N. Orchard, Chicago, IL 60614
10:00 AM - Worship Service
11:15 AM - Peace March and Mini-March Begin
12:15 PM - Reception with soup, cookies and free t-shirts!
The Mini March is an option for families with children ages 7 and under or anyone who would prefer a shorter walk. Activities include a 2-3 block walk, a cheering section with signs for marchers, and a service project crafted just for little ones. No separate registration is required to participate.
UCAN's overall mission is to build strong youth and families through compassionate healing, education and empowerment. All proceeds for this event support UCAN's Violence Intervention and Prevention Services which empowers young people to create life-changing opportunities that ensure safer futures. UCAN works with schools and other community partners to build resilience, influence behavior and reinforce learning opportunities to avoid the pitfalls of violence.
The Polar Peace March continues to make an impact in Chicago:
- Over the last three years, shootings and homicides in North Lawndale have declined considerably - down 52% since 2017
- UCAN's Violence Intervention and Prevention programming has grown to serve close to 450 youth - up 30% since 2017
- With increased funds, UCAN has made progress to expand engagement with city officials to strengthen awareness of the effects of exposure to complex trauma
We thank you for being part of our solution today!
